Here is a little bit about the film, Poto Mitan:

Frisline

Frisline

Told through the compelling lives of five courageous Haitian women workers, Poto Mitan gives the global economy a human face. Each woman’s life explains neoliberal globalization – how it is gendered, and how it impacts Haiti. Inhumane working and living conditions, violence, pertpetual poverty, and poor educational and healthcare systems are among the incalculable factors that weaken the lives and hopes of Haitians.

Our, activist filmmakers Renee Bergan and Mark Schuller’s intentions are simply to use Poto Mitan as a catalyst for active change in raising the standards for Haiti’s media image, raising awareness and funds for Haiti, in addition to providing a platform for underrerepresented peoples to voice their demand for change.

In addition to an educational circuit the film will be used as an organizing tool:  with the support from our 18 organizational partners, we are planning a series of house party campaigns to bring people together to view the film in order to raise funds and take concrete actions – for one, cancelling Haiti’s debt.  If we can raise enough funds, we will bring some of the women to the use for a speaking/screening tour and to meet with labor, women’s and faith based organizations to learn from one another.
